Norn Yaowarat, Best Hostel in Bangkok’s Chinatown

[Bangkok Hostels Are More Than Just Affordable—They Are Creating Unique Experiences to Attract Travelers!]

Norn Yaowarat Hotel, located in the alleys of Bangkok’s Chinatown (Yaowarat), offers youth-friendly hostel accommodations.

The four-story building is a renovated residential property. The hostel’s second floor displays its name and a colorful dragon-themed logo. Inside, the decor is modern, and the first-floor reception area features a hand-drawn map of the surrounding Chinatown, helping guests navigate nearby attractions. At check-in, each guest receives a small cup of ice cream (choices include Thai milk tea and coconut flavors). The staff is friendly, and the check-in process is quick and efficient.

Guests are guided upstairs using keycard access. The staircases are spacious, and the second floor has a designated shoe-changing area where guests must switch to slippers before entering the third-floor dormitories. The chosen accommodation was a mixed dormitory (12 people per room – bunk C in room 301) booked via Booking.com for 434 THB, with an additional deposit for the keycard (refundable upon check-out).

The room is well-lit, and the WiFi connection is excellent (passwords are provided at the front desk). Each bed has a storage compartment, a reading light, and charging outlets. The mattresses are comfortable. The top bunks offer more privacy but have perforated wooden panels to improve air circulation. Those who prefer easier access should choose a lower bunk.

The bathrooms are across from the rooms and are well-maintained, providing shampoo, shower gel, and hairdryers. However, towels are not provided. Guests must carry their keycard when going to the bathroom or shower; otherwise, they won’t be able to return to their room.

Breakfast is served on the second floor and is simple yet filling, including toast, boiled eggs, sausages, and small buns with both Western and Asian flavors. Beverages include juice, milk, water, and instant coffee, alongside three types of fresh fruit. Staff members are available to assist with breakfast preparation, replenish food, and clean up after guests.

Guests can visit the well-known coffee shop, JAYWALK Coffee, on the first floor. A hot latte costs 70 THB, an iced latte is 85 THB, and their iced Thai milk tea (85 THB) is also recommended.

Located in the heart of Chinatown, this hostel is surrounded by plenty of dining and shopping options. Sampeng Market is just 300 meters away, and Bangkok Railway Station is within walking distance. The extended MRT Blue Line’s Yaowarat Station is expected to open by the end of the year, making transportation even more convenient.

With the quality of a three-star hotel, this hostel offers excellent value for money.
