Pe Aor Tom Yum Noodle has become very popular in Bangkok. One reason is that the owner, Phi Or (พี่อ้อ), is quite spicy herself; the other reason is that their seafood spicy noodle soup is served in a large bowl! It's definitely worth a try.
Located at Phetchaburi Soi 5 in Bangkok, you can take the BTS to the Rachathewi station and walk from there.
The shop has a photo of Pe Aor posted at the entrance, showing the owner dressed quite attractively to promote her noodle shop. This initially sparked much online discussion, but also helped to make the place popular, achieving its promotional goal. However, if you're like me and want to see her in person, be prepared for the possibility that Pe Aor might not be there.
Even if you don't get to meet Pe Aor, the main draw is the spicy seafood noodle soup with lobster in a large bowl! No wonder there are waves of repeat customers, which shows this place is truly good.
The small and large lobster seafood noodle soups here range from 599 to 1200 Baht (for a kilogram of lobster and an extremely large bowl), usually enough for two to three people to share.
Although the shop looks like any typical roadside eatery, it's always packed, and the walls are covered with news articles about it.
The menu is well-illustrated, making it easy for tourists to order. They also have tasty omelet rice, but I especially recommend the crab meat rice (ข้าวกุ้งราดชอสมันปู), priced around 60 Baht. The sauce comes in two varieties: orange and yellow, with the orange one being the better choice.
This is the spicy shrimp soup noodle (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวต้มยํากุ้งนํ้าข้น), priced at 80 Baht, which is quite affordable. The restaurant even provides a separate plate for shrimp shells.
The flavor is rich, with Thai spices and seafood creating a very tasty broth. The level of spiciness is just right for most people, and the seafood quality is excellent. After finishing the meal, the flavors linger on your taste buds. Great value for the price, and I really enjoyed it!
Additionally, the bottled mineral water provided by the restaurant features an image of Pe Aor.
