Must-try in Bangkok: Puy Roti Lady Indian Pancake

Puy, although her skin is slightly darker like a girl from the northeastern part of Thailand and her features are deep-set, she can't be called "strikingly beautiful," but she is crowned as the "Roti Lady!"

Leaving her hometown, husband, and children, Puy came to Bangkok alone to make a living. She set up a stall selling Indian Roti on the corner of Silom Road and Sala Daeng Alley to support her family. She works 16 hours a day and greets every customer with a warm smile. Her story went viral on social media and became a sensation, making her a YouTube star with over a million views.

With her dedication to hard work, Puy skillfully flips and folds the dough on a scorching hot griddle. The aroma of her cooking—sweet caramelized bananas, sizzling eggs, and crispy dough—creates a sensory tapestry that draws curious tourists and local food lovers alike.

When she serves each golden, crispy Roti drizzled with condensed milk and white sugar, you will understand why she has earned respect in Bangkok's street food legend.

In addition to making delicious food, Puy's daily care in dressing adds to her charm. This has contributed to the popularity of her Roti stall, attracting mostly Western tourists and many female fans who request photos with her. Puy is always gracious and poses for pictures, never forgetting to thank her fans afterward.

Puy's Roti is very affordable. In 2023, one serving with eggs costs 25 Baht, with bananas 35 Baht, and with both eggs and bananas 40 Baht.

When I ordered a banana and egg Roti to go, the dough was mixed with pandan leaf juice, giving it a light green color. It had a subtle pandan fragrance and a perfect sweetness—delicious!

In April 2024, I passed by Puy's stall again. Western tourists were lining up to buy, while Puy focused on making each Roti. A Thai social media crew was filming beside her.

In October 2024, I visited and was amazed by Puy's sexy outfit!

However, there weren't many customers that day. Upon closer inspection, I noticed the price of the banana and egg Roti had increased to 50 Baht. Considering the cost of living in Thailand, it's still cheap. Even with fewer customers, Puy continued to work diligently, and I quickly ordered one. It was still as delicious as ever.

Puy sells hundreds of servings every day. Though it's hard work, she faces it all with a smile—this, in itself, is a kind of beauty!
