Must-play Golf Courses in Thailand: 14
Alpine Golf & Sports Club
Alpine Golf & Sports Club (สนามกอล์ฟ อัลไพน์ กอล์ฟ คลับ) is one of the most highly rated (top 6) golf courses in Thailand and one of the best courses in Asia. It is a must-play for all passionate golfers.
Best Layout with Challenging Design
The course was designed by world-famous American architect Ronald Garl. It spans a total length of 7,100 yards with 18 holes and a par 72. It is the best and most challenging golf course layout in Bangkok.
In addition to the top-notch hole designs, the par maintenance is up to the highest standards (the maximum handicap for women is 36, and for men it is 24). The greens are lightning-fast, and the fairways are undulating.
Set amidst rolling parkland and dense trees, it’s hard to imagine that the course was built from flat rice fields. The elevation changes are rare among Bangkok’s golf courses.
Besides the elevation changes and undulating design, water hazards are quite visible, with beach-style bunkers protecting the front of Par 3 holes 3 and 12. This course is not for the faint-hearted.
Golfers should also note that most of the greens are sloped from back to front, so keeping the ball below the hole can help achieve better scores. A conservative fairway strategy and accurate short game will be rewarded, while poorly positioned shots may result in costly penalties.
Woods Won Here Twice
This beautifully designed course regularly hosts top-level events, and some tee shots require straight drives to avoid getting caught in the jungle. Finding greens often protected by water is also not easy. For example, the 7th hole (par 5) features an island green. Former world golf champion Tiger Woods won the 2000 Johnnie Walker Classic here, hitting an eagle with a relatively small putting surface, and clinched the title again in 2004.
1-THE WATERFALL First Challenge
Hole 1 – This excellent par-3 starting hole, known as "The Waterfall," gives golfers a "first challenge" and sets the tone for the next four hours. The rolling hills, trees, water features, and strategically placed bunkers all create carefully arranged obstacles. Trust the caddie's guidance and start confidently, aiming for the right side of the fairway to set up an easy approach to the green and begin your day with a standard par.
12-VALLEY OF MOUNDS
The 12th hole, known as "Valley of Mounds," is a stunning par-3 and the signature hole of the course. It boasts a large beach bunker and beautifully designed greens, with difficult placement of shots. The green is a true test of putting skills. Take some time to savor the essence of the course.
14- THE WORLD OF ALPINE
Hole 14, called "The World of Alpine," is a par-5 with a dramatic tee shot that offers a clear view of the entire hole. If you're lucky and the wind is in your favor, there’s a chance to birdie. However, the fairway is narrow and lined with bunkers, so accuracy off the tee is crucial. The second shot might reach the green, but beware of the trap behind the green, which could cost you several strokes.
An Unforgettable Golf Experience
Playing at Alpine Golf Club offers an unforgettable experience, with winding fairways and undulating greens providing a unique golfing challenge.
The clubhouse facilities, lounges, and two restaurants (one café and one fine dining Chinese restaurant) are excellent, with service to match. Golf enthusiasts should consider including Alpine Golf & Sports Club in their Bangkok golf tour package.
